Pouch Sizing

Sizing for your Gentle Nest pouch is as easy as 1-2-3!

Correct sizing is extremely important for a great pouch wearing experience.  We understand that many women just don't fit perfectly into the Small-Medium-Large categories, and so we offer a wide range of sizes to ensure you have very close to a custom fit.  Here's how to find your size:

  1. Grab a soft measuring tape and measure your shoulder to hip measurement.
  2. Check your measurements on the chart below.
  3. If you have any questions or concerns, please refer to the Sizing FAQ.

baby pouch sling sizing shoulder to hip measurement
Your shoulder to hip measurement is taken from the outside of the ball of your shoulder to the top of the opposite hip, as shown in the diagram.

Don't pull the tape measure tightly, just draw it gently across your body without allowing it any slack.   Measure yourself standing in your normal, relaxed posture.

If you don't have a tape measure, a piece of string or strip of paper and a ruler will do.

Can the pouch be worn by both me and my husband?

Pouches are sized specifially to the wearer, so you may need different sized pouches.  However, because different body types can wear the same size, quite a few couples find that they are able to share a pouch.  Take your measurements as outlined above, and compare the outcomes for each of you in the sizing chart.

Why are there so many pouch sizes?
Because we understand that people come in many shapes and sizes, and that small, medium and large are simply not good enough!  Being sized specifically to the wearer, we believe it is important to offer the best possible fit for the most comfortable wearing experience.  We have worked meticulously since our beginnings to ensure we have developed accurate and appropriate sizings.  Because of this, you may find that two different sizes work equally well for you.  If you have any specific concerns about sizing, please contact us for further advice.

I'm not sure if I have the right pouch size.
Ideally, your baby should be just above or about level with your navel when in the sling.  A nice high snug position will be most comfortable.  If baby is too low, you'll find your back may become tired easily, or ache.  This problem is usually overcome as soon as a smaller size is tried.  While a snug pouch is often the most comfortable, if the pouch is too small, you may have difficulty putting it on, or getting baby into it.  If you have any specific concerns about sizing, please contact us for further advice.

Do the ring slings and mei tai have different sizes also?
If you are on either end of the sizing scale, you may prefer a shorter or longer length ring sling, or shorter or longer straps on your mei tai.  If you have any specific concerns about sizing, please contact us for further advice.

When I click on the drop-down menu, the size I need is missing!
Our stocks of certain patterns and sizes often sell quickly!  Many items are in limited stock, so unless your size is listed in the drop-down menu, we are out of stock in that size.

Do I need a different size pouch when my baby gets bigger?
Generally, if your pouch is a good snug fit when your baby is little, it will continue to be a good fit until your baby is too big to be carried.  However, your comfort in the pouch is dependent upon correct sizing.  If you lose or gain a considerable amount of weight, in particular above the waist, you may need a smaller or larger size pouch.
